Title: Threads of Fate by Lexi Esme

Genre: Romance, Erotica, Fantasy

Rating: 4 Stars

Threads of Fate had an amazing opening as we are introduced to Rhianne when her boss, Gary tries to assault her claiming to be in love with her. In order to save herself, Rhianne runs into the woods followed by Gary leading them both to fall into a huge ditch which happens to be home to a spider like creature. Honestly, this opening was great, it was action packed and delightfully introduces us to Rhianne who is a little spitfire.

The spider creature is named Sephtis and he has no plans to hurt Rhianne despite killing Gary with little effort or emotion. However, when Rhianne finally gets home and calls out Sephtis’ name he appears in her home and explains that the only one with the power to summon and control him is his destined wife, which he claims is Rhianne. Rhianne is obviously freaked out by this at first but Sephtis soon proves himself to be a kind and loyal person, working his way into Rhianne’s heart.

We don’t get the first smut scene until almost half way through the book but I wasn’t upset by this at all because there is so much chemistry between Rhianne and Sephtis despite only knowing each other for a few days. This scene was amazing and really highlighted the non-human elements of Sephtis but also sets up the internal conflict for him which is going to come to a head very soon. Since Sephtis isn’t human there are certain needs he has that need to be met and he believes that Rhianne won’t be able to meet them since the last human he was with couldn’t.

Learning about Sephtis’ past was heartbreaking especially learning he had been ordered not to feed, essentially starving him which led to him killing the woman he loved at the time. Rather than reacting badly, Rhianne has nothing but love and compassion for him and makes him understands that he is a good person who was trapped in horrible circumstances. This leads to another smut scene but in Sephtis’ true form which was done extremely well and the author obviously did her research.

In the aftermath, the only order she gives him is to feed on those that deserve it like those that hurt others and he agrees. Overall, I greatly enjoyed Threads of Fate even though it has fated mates as the main trope which isn’t normally something I enjoy. Despite that, Esme’s writing was beautiful and we,l done especially in the smut scenes and I have another book by her that I will be getting to soon.
